For beginners I normally use Talking Trumpet as a primary flow exercises book and Edwards-Hovey Method for Cornet or Trumpet to start the practice in articulations and fingerings in a comfortable pitch. In according with the improvement I add or change practice books. To intermediary level I certainly will apply Arban`s Complete Conservatory Method for Trumpet and some alternatives to flow exercises and technical studies. I usually start with a beginners book for children or adults.  We go through the lessons at their own speed.  As for practicing the scales, I do not introduce them until the students is thoroughly familiar with the keys (the alphabet of the keys.)  For adults I introduce the scales and arpeggios much earlier. All students are assessed in reading music abilities as well as playing ability. Beginners are taken through a friendly course of learning about the instrument. For Classical Guitar I use Segovia Scales, Carulli Preludes, Sagreras, Guiliani Right Hand Studies, my own material from my book and some great compilation books to span the various genres of Classical Music to include the Renaissance Period, Baroque Period and Classic Period.
