All students are assessed in reading music abilities as well as playing ability. Beginners are taken through a friendly course of learning about the instrument. For Classical Guitar I use Segovia Scales, Carulli Preludes, Sagreras, Guiliani Right Hand Studies, my own material from my book and some great compilation books to span the various genres of Classical Music to include the Renaissance Period, Baroque Period and Classic Period. I first focus on the guitar level the student is at. From then on I can make a customized lesson for each student covering basic concepts such as tablature reading, understanding of the fret board, open cords, power chords, right and left hand positioning, picking techniques, and the minor pentatonic scale. For beginners I teach the fundamentals such as found in the Rubank Elementary Method for Trumpet. I stress accuracy, correct breathing, and tone development. I try to stress the importance of daily practice. I encourage my students to enjoy making music, and never to be discouraged.
