Other experiences I have teaching include being a Mentor in Illini Mentoring Program (mentioned above), along with being a part of the UofI-Juvenile Detention Center Arts Project in spring of 2017. This coalition formed of UI students and professors helped to generate meaningful musical experiences for incarcerated youth, providing them with a possibility to be kids again in trying times, and to promote restorative justice. Since 2017, I have gotten the opportunity to teach lessons here and their to peers (college age), but I'm ready to delve into the exciting world of private teaching and help share my knowledge and passion for music with others ready to learn. I have been playing drums and percussion for almost 20 years and my love and passion for playing and teaching shows in myself and the students I've worked with. In 2011, I graduated from Missouri Western State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music. Percussion was my main instrument. In the past 15 years, I've had the pleasure of performing with various types of bands in venues and competitions from all over the United States, winning many awards and critical praise for my work as a musician. I am a native of Russia. In 2001 I moved to the United States. In 2005 I became a US citizen. I studied music for seven years to earn my Bachelor of Arts degree in vocals and piano. I studied six more years in conservatory to obtain my Masters degrees in music performance and education. I love to teach and to see my students progress in their musical studies. When sequential learning is introduced, along with material that motivates, this encourages dedication and progression. My teaching journey began in high school when I led sectionals for younger classes and elementary programs, as I already knew I wanted to study music education. I started teaching private lessons to a few students in my free time, and this early experience helped me develop effective teaching techniques. Since then, I have taught private lessons in the Kansas City area through my own studio and traveled to schools to teach lessons during the school day, as well as small cello classes outside of school hours.
