Instruments: Piano Trumpet Saxophone Flute Synthesizer Music Keyboard

I started saxophone when I was in 6th grade, but I would say my musical journey truly began when I reached high school. I found a teacher in my hometown of York Pennsylvania who's values perfectly aligned with mine. His methods are still a part of my every-day routine and I have made it my mission to share them with everyone I can. In 2014 I moved to North Carolina to pursue my bachelors in Jazz Performance. They thoughtfully introduce students to authentic repertoire from the major historical periodsBaroque, Classical, Romantic, and 20th Centuryhelping them develop both musical and historical understanding. I believe learning about music history alongside performance is not only enriching but essential in shaping a well-rounded musician. For adult students, my approach is highly personalized. I take time to learn about their musical interests and goals, and tailor lessons accordinglywhether theyre complete beginners or returning pianists. Read More

Instruments: Piano Trumpet Trombone Euphonium French Horn

My teaching is student-centered. Teacher demonstration leads the way for any student on any instrument. Students are encouraged to set long-term goals and short-term goals. Students are encouraged to be stakeholders in their own development and their own future. Students are encouraged to listen to as many other artists as possible. Success is not a point of arrival, but a process. My experience at the Peabody Institute prepared me as a performer and as a teacher. Read More

Piano: For beginning students who are children, I start by teaching out of the Faber Piano Adventure books. I find that they focus on the more exciting aspects of music, such as sight reading. This is different from the Bastion books which I think focus too much on more challenging (and boring) methods such as articulation. The Faber books are great because they have fun short songs that the student can play with the teacher in a duet. Read More

Instruments: Piano Voice

My teaching experience began during college, roughly four years ago, while teaching several private students during a summer break. While studying music in college, I received training in topics such as keyboard pedagogy, keyboard literature, collaborative piano, improvisation, music theory, and musicianship (aural skills). I worked as a Music Theory/Musicianship Grader and Tutor for several years, and I assisted in some group piano classes. For the past three years, I have spent a lot of time working as a collaborative pianist for vocalists and instrumentalists, performing in juries, recitals, and other student evaluations. Read More

Instruments: Guitar Saxophone Flute Clarinet Acoustic Guitar

For beginning students who are children, I begin with method books to teach the fundamentals and establish good practice routines. Once a good foundation is established, I like to move into solo and ensemble repertoire to develop lyricism and expression. For adults, I find out what the students are interested in, and direct my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun regardless of ability level. I have rigorous practice routines for all ability and commitment levels. Read More
