Nothing is better than watching a students progress in music! It's so important that every student goes at they're own speed. I set realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.. I try to make the my student feel comfortable and not nerves about learning. As a classically trained vocalist and multi-instrumentalist, I have been instructing for 10 years, alongside my activities in performance. I have been instructing students and colleagues within the University setting, as well as in private lessons. I encourage students to listen to music and to dive into their respective sounds as much as they can because immersion is key to understanding how to embody their sound. If a student is missing that piece to their musical character, then that is where I come in, to stoke the flame, and focus it. Read More

I have been teaching voice and piano for ten years; beginning with my senior year in high school and now as a professional musician. I have taught at several colleges, conservatories and universities; as well as frequently engaging students in master classes of both the Opera and Music Theater genres. I really enjoy meeting students where they are at-finding out their individual needs and goals; and designing a curriculum specific to each student! Read More

My main goals with all of my students are to foster their love and appreciation for music and to teach them the skills they need to make whatever music they want to make. I want all of my students to be able to experience the joy that comes from music making so I do my best to ensure that they're using healthy, efficient, reliable, technique; that they become musically literate, and that they develop aural skills that will help them to better understand what they hear. I like to have a nice blend between two general areas of study with my students. I ideally like to spend half of the lesson time focusing on the more academic side of things and the other half on just playing tunes. Academic material would include things like sight-reading and basic music theory to truly educate my student about music while playing tunes (of the student's choosing) is a way to make it more of a fun environment. I feel that having this balance will alow me to train my students with a proper education while still being relaxed and having fun. Read More

My teaching style is one of stern motivation. I expect that each student will take the personal pride to prepare for each lesson by practicing the required amount and the assigned music. I can expect this because despite having a full-time job, I still find the time to practice and prepare for all of my lessons and performances. I also want my students to be successful and be proud of the performances that they are a part of. Read More

For beginners of any age, I begin by discussing goals, milestones, and how we will achieve them. I do use method books, but only recommend those that will be useful in and out of lessons. I keep lessons fun and engaging, and always demonstrate before expecting the student to do the same. Fundamentals as building blocks are always needed, but I never keep a learning plan the same from student to student- goals (that can always be changed) are what I use to guide a student to be confident for any performance.
