I do this because I love music, and I love helping others love music. So, while I do want the students to be very proficient musicians, I am mostly concerned in helping cultivate the student's passion for music. After all, if the student doesn't love the music, it's not near as urgent to practice and produce results. The love of the music is what drives the practice. Also, while I have general curriculums designed to guide the student's educational journey, I know that all students learn at different paces. Read More

With these songs we work on acting, interpretation, confidence and ease of singing. For my students who are more advanced and who's voices have begun to change, I work on technique and ease of vocal production. I worked as an adjunct voice professor for 5 years at Texas Southern University (TSU) before joining Houston Baptist University (HBU) as a full-time voice faculty in 2017. At HBU, my job duties extensively include: teaching individual voice students as well as lecturing group classes daily, advising students, teaching masterclasses; creating programs; directing various concerts weekly, and collaborating with both local and international artists and organizations. With 10+ years of academic teaching experience, I have developed great patience and strong communication skills to quickly resolve work conflicts and provide leadership. Read More

I believe teaching in music in an art that requires as much dedication and preparation as performing. When I teach, I dont force a certain technique or method on students, but rather I teach what is best suited for them. On top of that, I always motivate my students with adequate goals. Most importantly, I will make sure my students enjoy music in the process of learning. I have a Bachelor of Music in Voice Performance from University of Massachusetts, Amherst and a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Indiana University. Read More

I start my beginning students off with learning to read music notation simply from a rudiment sheet and moving into a cd play a long book with basic drum rhythms and song structure. For intermediate to advance students, I typically start with Stick Control for the snare drummer by George Stone. For basic drum set we start with "The Rhythm Book" covering all drum set styles. If the student is interested in a specific genre and style of playing, we tend to travel down that road of goals they have set for themselves. Read More
