For beginning students I teach out of the Rubank Elementary Method books. These books are most comprehensive for beginning students. As the student progresses I begin introducing them to solo repertoire, scales studies, and jazz improvisation. My approach is much different with adult students. I ask them what are their musical goals and from there I can create a curriculum based on adult students needs and wants. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. I started teaching after I finished my undergrad, but my skills were greatly enhanced when I did my Master's degree.
