My teaching experience began 10 years ago when I had the opportunity to teach group piano classes at a local elementary school. My first piano pedagogy classes were at the Cleveland Institute of Music in 2005-2006, and I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity for practice teaching not only at the Cleveland Institute of Music but also at the MacPhail Center for the Arts in Minneapolis, MN. I love watching students succeed and learn the viola or violin! This is why we go by the student's pace and work with their ability. I require a notebook or binder for me to record what the student will need to work on for the following lesson, which helps them remember what they're assigned, as well as keeping them accountable about expectations. My teaching style is based on each student's needs. Some students like to learn at a fast pace and others like to go slower. I listen carefully and ask questions, basing instruction on what creates success. My approach is to make learning fun. I am a great listener, who listens to the students needs and abilities. I believe that we all go through a metamorphosis, a transformation in our musicianship. Music is meant to be enjoyed not shoved through. I also believe that the student needs to be engaged, and challenged in their musicality by calling them to a higher technique within their abilities to perform. There is nothing more fulfilling that seeing my students become passionate about the guitar. I love seeing the weekly improvements and satisfaction they receive when learning a new skill. I understand each student is different and learns at their own pace but that doesn't mean I won't still motivate them to improve. I know from experience how important everyday practice can be.
