Music Lessons in Belle Plaine, MN

Instruments: Piano

As my skills developed, my desire to become a solo pianist grew. I am passionate about music, and I work to perfect my technique, striving to bring out the composers intentions in whatever piece I perform. Fundamentally, my interpretations stem from my lifes experiences: from the difficulties of becoming a classical musician to leaving my family in Armenia for Germany in order to pursue my passion for piano. I have been brought up in the Russian/Soviet traditions of piano performance. Read More

My philosophy in teaching is that a good understanding of the foundation of music and the instrument will lead to self sufficiency in learning. I aim to teach my students not just to be dependant on myself as the instructor, but to be able to problem solve and learn on their own if they run into a question and an instructor is unavailable. I regularly practice sight reading with my students and keep them critically thinking about their music and what makes it up. Read More

Over the years I have played in many different types of groups such as folk, rock, pop, EDM, and punk bands, which has given me a pretty broad appreciation for all different types of music. On the production side of things, I have recently had the opportunity to work for other artists in genres outside of my wheelhouse, such as hip hop and jazz. I always tell my students that I think it is important to challenge yourself and stretch your ears. Read More

I try to find out what inspires students most to learn singing. This gives me a clearer picture of what skills they wish to attain and I can gently push them toward their goals. I give positive encouragement and clear constructive feedback, so that my students can develop their ear and abilities to self-correct as time goes by. Many things go un-noticed until a voice specialist can point it out. Read More

I use a variety of books for teaching, and prefer to not use just one. It is essential for students to study scales and arpeggios, so a scale book, typically the Flesch Scale book is required. Other books I use are -Suzuki -Solos for Young Violinists/Violists -For Strings (Though I use Suzuki books, I do NOT teach the Suzuki method. I strong emphasize music reading literacy, and this requires the ability to understand by reading, and not by hearing alone). Read More

Teaching is a step by step process and it takes time, effort and patience. I like to break things down into easily attainable steps and then build from there. This builds confidence and creates a sense of accomplishment. I was taught by Russian, Hungarian, and American teachers. I received a very traditional type of classical training which I do follow and teach. But I also play duets with most of my students. Read More

I am familiar with all teaching methods, both American and European. I use the combination of both. In general I teach scales, reading music, learning to sight read, metronme training, along with muscle development and strengthening. I teach all styles of music for both strings and piano and have had very successful students young and old. Specifically for violin, I teach the Dounis method for more advanced students preparing for auditions, scholarships etc. Read More
