Like most trumpet teachers, I introduce the Arban's Complete Conservatory Method for Trumpet, an everything-you-need-to-know book that the student will use throughout their trumpet playing career. However, I also incorporate a variety of other method, solo, and duet books throughout lessons with an intent of maintaining variety, both of material and the methods that the material presents. My experience is mostly with late elementary school students but I have also taught middle school and early high school students as well. With my primary insturment being flute, I began teaching private lessons in 2008 while I was still in high school. I taught the younger flute students in the Worthington School Distrct. When I started college, I continued to teach flute lessons and I then began teach saxophone lessons as well. Music fundamentals are most important in the beginning stages. When teaching kids I really focus on posture, breath, building repertoire, and technique. For adults, I start by finding out if they are adult beginner, or adult intermediate, depending on the knowledge of singing and technique.
