I find this to be a very good book to help grasp the fundamentals of the instrument for beginning players. Over the past 13 years, I have taught piano, music theory, and music composition to a diverse group of learners, including school-age children, college students, and adults of distinct backgrounds. From 2014-2018 I received the Graduate Teaching Fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh, where I led piano courses for non-Music majors, and held weekly recitations and office hours for required courses for Music majors. I prefer to teach using the Suzuki books, since I believe it is a well rounded learning of fun music while teaching technique and musical abilities. I expect my students to practice at least 6 times a week. My students are encouraged to practice by ear, to encourage the love for music. If the student is more advanced, they will begin working on Carl Flesch Scales and Wolfhart etudes. My teaching experience dates back to 2019, when I would teach elementary and middle school students in my home in Maryland. I emphasize regular practice on a consistent schedule and to have a positive attitude when learning to play the clarinet. My students are encouraged to enter competitions, recitals, and auditions. I have produced students that have won auditions for Maryland Classic Youth Orchestras, been first chair of the Maryland State Honors Band, and have placed in state and region-wide music competitions!
