After the first lesson, I get my students the book "Stick Control for the Snare Drummer" by George L Stone. Once the student has progressed I will begin some solo repertoire from varying genres. I find it is always helpful to allow students to play music that they enjoy - experiencing a range of both popular and classical pieces to broaden their horizons.
