Music Lessons in Athol, MA

Instruments: Violin Electric Violin Fiddle

It's all about awareness, listening and sharing a love of playing. I love to play with my students, but also acknowledge the intensity of sitting back, watching, listening and internalizing the student. I am keenly aware of time and intend to cover all that was given as the last lesson plan (home practice) while forming a new plan for the next lesson. I always include something akin to a new "trick" that is easy to remember and will give back satisfaction. Read More

Instruments: Piano Organ

I have been teaching since my years in high school. I found that my own study of the piano, at that time, was greatly enchanced by teaching students younger than myself. My most recent students, beginners in non-music college programs have enjoyed the study, because I tuned myself to the place that each one is in when they arrive for their first series of lessons. The results for the students have been gratifying for me as their teacher. Read More

Instruments: Voice

I love seeing my students learn and progress! That's why the student and I set goals for the student, whether it's learning a new song, practicing a certain amount of minutes a week, or auditioning for something like a musical or talent show! Setting small goals like these helps the student feel accomplished, and want to continue to work on their new found skills. I find that goal setting keeps the student interested and engaged in the long run. Read More

Instruments: Voice

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with a variety of beginner voice books based of the students interest. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More

I have since then received my Masters in Music Education, and moved to the Middle East where I taught both private lesson and classroom music for 10 years. Read More

Instruments: Trumpet Saxophone Flute Clarinet Oboe

For younger students, I typically assist and follow the method books students are working on. For example, they may use Standards of Excellence or Hal Leonard’s Essential Elements. These lesson books are crucial to teaching the fundamentals as a student is beginning to learn an instrument. I will break away from the books and introduce appropriate solo repertoire. I will also be mindful to the interests of the students to keep them engaged. Read More
