As lessons progress another part of my teaching method is to teach students something they can be proud of. For younger students that might be a nursery rhyme they know all the words to and feel like they can perform for their parents, for older students it might be a song they love and hear on the radio and always wanted to learn how to play. When I teach children, I use the adventures piano lesson book. When I see that the student are advancing, I encourage them to further their knowledge. I make sure my students learn the scales; which are very important. I also use the Hanon book for exercises when my students begin to advance to a higher level of understanding. I have multiple pieces prepared for my students to play in order for them to be ready to play recitals. Read More

Teaching has been an integral part of my own musical development. When not performing I was the resident trumpet teacher and embouchure specialist at the San Francisco School Of Jazz and have taught privately on an ongoing basis. "When given a gift as I have, I believe it is an absolute responsibility to share it with others." Trumpet is an especially challenging instrument to master and I believe that the correct fundamentals (embouchure studies, breathing, posture, tonguing, scales and interval studies) are critical components of musical success.
