From my experience in receiving music lessons when I was younger, I had a difficult time putting forth the time and effort for lessons that were classically run. I had a lot more fun with music when I’d learn at the pace I wanted to learn, and work on pieces I felt most interested in. During this time I developed my skills in playing marching snare drum, drum-set, marimba, and concert percussion instruments. After graduating from Rangeview High School, I volunteered for a year as the drum line teacher. The following year, I became a paid percussion instructor, leading the group to win several competitions. During this time, I also attended the Community College of Aurora, studying studied Music, Business, and Film. I followed that passion through a doctoral degree in Music and Human Learning at UT Austin, and since have taught at universities, summer camps, and after-school programs.
