I'm a passionate musician from a small town in Missouri. My love for music started at a young age and I'm happy to say much of my personal and professional time has been spent surrounded by it. It's my goal to teach in a way that relates to the individual student and their goals. I spend time focusing on at what stage each student is at, in the accomplishment of their goals. Encouragement and patient accomplishment are important aspects of my lessons. I teach the importance of being patient with one's self and keeping focus on goals at hand. I believe we can teach and learn better in a very caring, supportive environment and that each student has the ability to achieve their individual goals! Read More

I like to start with basics in every way.. holding the instrument, tuning, songs that interest them, styles, and some history. I want people to be able to play some basic songs fairly quickly. Seeing results in yourself is important to keep motivated. I think it can seem like a impossible thing sometimes. I want everyone to feel like they have accomplished something because music isnt easy. Basics go a long way in most everything in life. Read More

When I begin working with a new piano student, my first priority is getting to know them as a learner and as a person. Every student comes to music with a unique mix of goals, learning styles, and personal interests, so I make it a point to understand what motivates them and what kind of music truly excites them. Some students dream of playing classical masterpieces, while others want to explore pop, jazz, film scores, or even video game music. Read More

For beginning flutists, I typically start with the Rubank Elementary Method so that they can have a basic grasp of the fundamentals. Beyond that, I introduce books according to their musical goals and needs. Some of the books my students have studied out of are the Rubank Intermediate/Advanced books and the Melodious and Progressive Studies edited by Cavally. In addition, I have each student regularly work on solo literature so that they can put their hard work on fundamentals into practice. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with my own theory/ method system and then move on to the existing method books. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More
