My students have gone from 5 year old beginners to very accomplished piano and guitar players. The student gets to pick the first two songs of the lesson, and I pick the next 2. That way, they get a lot of choice for the lessons. With the pandemic, the students have been very consistent with not missions lessons, which is pushing their progress as well. However this is up for debate and we can cover whatever the student desires. Often times teachers teach a blanket method using certain scales, chords, ect, expecting that this will miraculously result in the improvement the student desires.
