I began my guitar studies at the age of 12. A contemporary of the Tarrega School, I have taught and performed regularly as both soloist and ensemblist throughout my career. In 2012, I earned my Bachelors Degree in music performance from the University of Nebraska Omaha while studying with classical guitarist Hadley Heavin. As stated above, I believe that emotion plays an integral role in the mastery and performance of any instrument. Consequently, my teaching style revolves around the use and application of emotion in play. A simple example of this would be a simple discussion of the differences between major and minor chords and the relative emotion conveyed by each, as interpreted by the student. I had my first student when I was in middle school (around 1993). Jumping forward a few years later, I started teaching again around 1998 while attending Bekrlee College of Music. At that time I was only teaching partime but quickly escalated to fulltime once I graduated in 2001. At my peak, I was teaching between 40-45 students weekly. This method generates interest in their instrument from the very begining. I select their repetoire based on what techniques we are currently working on and find songs that will force them to develop those techniques in order for them to effectively perform each piece.
