I began teaching bass lessons when I was in high school. I taught bass for 11 years as an adjunct instructor at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. I also worked as a clinician at the UAB Jazz Summit. Many of my students have gone on to play professionally and a few have gone on to become music teachers themselves. I encourage those ideas in lessons, and I focus on teaching students to play with musicality. For each individual student, I set reasonable goals for them at the end of each lesson. I am a passionate piano performer who wants to show people the beauty of the instrument and its immense capabilities. I have studied music and have been classically trained since I was six years old and am studying for a bachelor associate degree at the University of Alabama. I have performed in numerous classical piano competitions, and growing up I competed in AMTA for over ten consecutive years. I'm a very passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. I have been raised up all around music. In my school years, I participated in band where I learned the technical aspects of music such as reading and writing notation. After graduation, performing in various bands across the United States has been one of the greater experiences of my life as a musician, and I've had the opportunity to tour both Houston, Texas with the group Members Only and The Carter McKay Band, as well as busking in Nashville and performing in various groups there, all the way back to Birmingham, AL where I have played with several bands and have started my own self titled brand. I typically do two things. First, I tailor my lessons to fit the age, experience, and ability of each individual. I try to listen carefully to what they say, and try to figure out what they really mean. Since each student is an individual I do not categorize them.
