My teaching style would probably be classified as Classical. I do teach music reading as a foundation of most of my instruction, however I also work with students who learn better by rote. I take pride in being flexible in my instruction. I do teach from the beginning on how to read music with focus on foundational posture and instrument position. Once that is solid, there is no limit to the students progress. Read More

I am very positive about teaching my students. I have the knowledge to teach about the theory, technique and flow of the music up through the intermediate level. I don't necessarily stay with the music until it is perfect, because as the student learns more they can always come back to it and play it better. I do encourage my students to perform pieces they are doing well with, it's always fun to play for a small group and share each others gifts. Read More

My performance experience has taken me to many wonderful places--College bowl games and the NCAA Tournaments to international hotspots such as Bogota, Columbia and even as far away as China. I have also been fortunate enough to perform with musical icons such as Doc Severinson, Mariachi Cobre, Byron Stripling, John Fedchock, Bobby Shew, Five by Design, Club Swing, the Harry James Orchestra, Andre Williams, and notable groups such as the Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra, Phil Campo and the "Loose Change" Jazz band, the Salt Lake Alternative Jazz Orchestra, and many others. I start by gathering information about a student's goals and inspirations, and prior knowledge/experience. From there, we develop a plan for warmup exercises, technical exercises, literature, sight-reading, ear-training and listening excerpts to be studied. I determine whether the student needs to begin learning primarily by ear or using some kind of written notation. We find a schedule that will work with both of us. Most students have a regular weekly time, but some students need a variable time due to their individual schedule so we work that out in advance. Read More

I teach beginning piano using the Faber Piano Adventures method, as well as the Suzuki method. From there we go into classical training, then on to jazz or pop. This includes music theory, technique, and the major and minor scales. I teach songwriting if you are looking to create songs, and I teach music theory as well as music composition. I teach music production, electronic music production, and all aspects of Ableton Live. Read More

Typically with beginner students I work through the Alfred's Piano series (Adult and Children) and we focus on performance, technique, ergonomics, theory, and ear training. If a student wishes to work on composition or music production, after a proper foundation, we can explore that as well. Once a student has reached proficiency in the Alfred's series then I like to move into classical or other music as that a student might be interested in. Read More

I started teaching voice and piano lessons while I was a student at Wartburg College. I continued teaching when I moved to New Mexico and I now have ten years of studio teaching experience. After completing my Master's Degree in Vocal Performance, I returned to UNM to attain a New Mexico Teaching License. I have been teaching elementary music in the public schools for five years since attaining that license. Read More

Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
