For beginning students, I usually start by creating a strong foundation in the student's mind of why they want to learn how to play an instrument and what goals, if any, they initially have for themselves. I then utilize this to help create individual based lesson plans that are driven by the inner workings of the student's mind. I enjoy guiding students to their specific goals and helping them gain understanding of their instrument and also of their own innate musicality. I tailor all lessons to meet both of these areas and find that it not only helps students motivate but also learn to engage their instrument in a way that is both fun and rewarding for themselves. When working in private lessons, I work with each student to set goals, both long and short term. I then assume the role of a guide whenever possible, rather than an authoritarian figure, so that sudents can discover concepts for themselves vs. having the information given to them. When students discover the concepts for themselves, they tend to understand them much better because they have learned them through practical use. Read More

I approach teaching as an avenue to inspire others. Making mistakes are just as important as playing something perfect. I like to stress that perfection is not the goal but feeling good from playing your instrument is. It is very important for my students to practice outside of lessons. I try to encourage that through positive reinforcements verses just saying you have to practice this lesson over and over. I make my guitar lessons fun which keeps my students coming back. Read More
