I have been teaching music for two years professionally, and much longer than that informally. I played regularly and professionally at venues in Columbia, MO, such as the Bridge and The Vault. I studied trumpet in my high-school band and learned to read music, progressing on my own thereafter into more complex theory and harmony, as well as composition. I have been in several ensembles and have performed as a solo artist on many occasions as well. Read More

As a former certified school teacher my focus is on laying the right foundation for a lifetime of musical learning and enjoyment for the student. I want my students to develop skills in all aspects and styles of playing so that as their preferences progress they will be equipped for all genres and styles. However if an adult or intermediate level student wants to specialize I can accommodate them. That's why I suggest they incorporate both note reading and chord theory to their scope and sequence of study. Read More

Hi there! Teaching guitar is my passion. Having played guitar for almost 20 years (!), I'm eager to pass along what I've learned and push students to develop their own love for the instrument. I started playing guitar when I was 7 years old, taking private lessons with my older brother (the local music school had a 2 for 1 deal!). After several years, my brother decided it wasn't for him, but I had fallen completely in love with guitar and music in general. Read More

For beginners, I always start with a classical approach, which stresses the importance of posture and breathing. We'll usually start with the First Book of [Voice Part]'s Solos and mix in one or two musical theater pieces. This is in tandem with learning how to warm up, learn pieces, what memorizing looks like, and how to emote. These are constantly evolving things that can be used with any skill level. Read More

I began helping my friends work through their music when I was 19 at Missouri Western State University, and eventually cultivated a bustling studio of students through word of mouth. I now teach full time in Zoom and in person with house visits, or at my home studio. My students regularly perform very well at state competitions, form bands of their own, and have found great cause in writing their own music outside of academia. Read More

I enrolled as a guitar performance music major learning classical guitar with Mark Bentley of Kansas City. I soon began to teach guitar lessons and loved the opportunity to share with students the simple things of making music. I changed my major to music education and took about every music class Missouri Western offered. I became a public school elementary vocal music teacher in Kansas City, Kansas. I went on to get a Masters degree in Education Leadership with an emphasis in elementary education. Read More

In my studio, the most important thing when structuring lessons is to make them individualized. No two lessons look the same in my studio. If a student wants to work on composing, that will be the focus. If the student wants to work on sight-reading, we'll focus on that. Of course, it's important to be a well-rounded musician, but these lessons are for the students' benefit, not mine, so I'll make sure they leave their lessons with what they want to gain. Read More
