My students have won young artist competitions, concerto and talent competitions (including Miss Connecticut), and scholarships to Eastman School of Music, Peabody Conservatory, Oberlin Conservatory and Berklee College of Music in Boston. I have the honor of being known as one of the best flute teachers in the country (James walker, Principal flutist, Los Angeles Philharmonic; Julius Baker, Principal flutist, New York Philharmonic; and Dr. Philip Swanson, Dean, College of Music, Northern Arizona State University). When I begin with a new student, I generally jam and analyze my student's abilities, skill level, techniques and interests/desires in music styles. When I have a good idea about my student's ability and skill level, we begin with focusing on what needs to be improved. For beginner children, I like to focus on the fundamentals and keep interest with keeping things creative, exciting and fun! For adults, I like to analyze my student's musical interests and try to associate lessons in that style of repertoire. Read More

I started teaching back in 1995 due to repeated requests from customers at the music store where I was working retail at the time. Turned out to be the best decision I ever made as I left the retail world within 1 more year and never went back. When I was growing up I did not have a teacher which is why I love being able to do this so much. "Be Who You Needed When You Were Younger" has been an incredibly rewarding path for both me and my students. Read More

I’ve already stressed this, but I’m always starting at the same level my student is on. The last thing I want to so is overwhelm a beginner! Therefore, my lessons will be tailored to your learning needs and habits. I am always open to feedback, and I encourage students to stop and ask me questions! I’m very laid back. Sure, you could say I’m a hippie, but that doesn't mean I don’t have expectations. Read More

Born and raised in Austin, Texas, I began playing guitar when I was 8 years old. My love for music has deepened over time, and I feel it is important to share my knowledge and passion for the art with whoever is willing to learn. My earliest teachers taught me in a way that made music fun, rather than tedious, which to me is essential. I played in Jazz Band through middle school and high school, which opened my ears to another dimension of music. Read More

My method is based on each student's age, skill level, enthusiasm/interest level, and their wants/needs. For beginner students, it is important to start with the basic fundamentals and techniques, but once those are mastered, there is more freedom to explore. For intermediate students, we work on filling in gaps they may have in their current understanding of music/guitar, and anything else they want to work toward. For advanced students, what we work on is really just up to the student and whichever areas they would like to improve in. Read More

My interest in guitar started in 2000 when I was in the fourth grade. I can still remember that day in music class when the teacher was showing us different kinds of instruments. Holding the guitar somehow felt right and interesting to me. I started taking guitar lessons, but within a couple of years of that, I was starting to find that I didnt really need the lessons to learn how to play songs because I was picking them up on my own.
