For me, it's about building or finding moments. Finding out what is going to motivate you to learn that song, practice that chord, and try to instill the desire to show it off for next time. Once I find out where the student is at, wether they are learning their first chords or songs, or they have been trying for a while or just getting back to their old habit of picking up the instrument, the goal is to set the mark where one will wait eagerly for the next lesson, to show off their new found skill. It is very important for me to get to know my students interest and musical inclinations.I design my lessons based on their needs and their goals. I like to make sure that they are building a strong foundation as well as enjoying the process of learning. I believe in creating a clear path or setting a clear process wich will help the student achieve a specific goal. The more the student conquers small but important goals, the more he will improve and be motivated to do so. Read More

I am a huge music enthusiast, and love almost every discipline from classical to pop. I am primarily a classical pianist, and I have been taking lessons for about 10 years from an adjunct professor at Tulane University, but I also enjoy playing jazz/blues and pop. In addition to playing, I compose many of my own piano pieces, as well as create arrangements of popular songs and produce music electronically. Read More

Most of all the rescources I use for my students can be found for free online. The most important things for any classical guitarist are: Mauro Giuliani’s right hand arpeggio studies, Matteo Carcassi’s Etudes, Fernando Sor’s etudes among exercises I’ve learned and created personally. Other great rescources are Scott Tennant’s Book “Pumping Nylon” and Pepe Romero’s book “La Guitarra”, which are about $20 a book. Read More

For beginning students i try to find something that makes it fun and move forward from there, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for their first recital performance. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in, and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons engaging and fun, no matter their ability level. Read More

I really like using the Piano Adventures method for piano. However, I have used several method books for piano, guitar, and bass students before. Sometimes I do not require any books. It all depends on the student. I try to make a very personalized schedule per student. For adults, I also try to find out what the student is interested in and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lesson engaging and fun no matter their ability level. Read More

I've been teaching guitar and general music lessons since high school, where I would assist the music teacher in guitar and theory classes because of my advanced skill level. During my undergraduate studies in college, I put myself through school teaching private lessons in my home and at various music stores, churches, and performing arts schools, teaching around 200 students in 5 years. When I went back to school to get my masters degree, I was awarded an assistantship and taught music theory, music appreciation, jazz ensembles, and jazz improvisiation at the university, in addition to keeping a robust private guitar studio on the side. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
