Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

My teaching experience started in 2009. Since then I have consistently taught students ranging from 3 years old to wise adults over 80 years. I generally teach in my home studio because I find students benefit much more than being at their home. I make exceptions for those with busy schedules (however I highly recommend having lessons outside your home). Encouraging a personal lesson and education is one of my focuses as it tends to help the student progress and maintain a passion for the instrument and music. Read More

I have taught friends and family how to play both drums and guitar. I am always happy to share my knowledge of music theory and composition. I enjoy teaching and have a passion for music. I give great guidelines and techniques for writing original music. I can help students convey emotion in their music using music intervals, chord types, scales, modes, and rhythm. I have patience and understanding of the learning process. Read More

I am not strict in one specific style. I try to be malleable in my approach as I get to know the habits and abilities of each individual. I've had students for whom I thought it best to be more rigid and repetitive drill based, while others seem to benefit from a more passive guru. It's a spectrum. Always, though, I try to control the pace of the session, to speak thoughtfully, honestly, and constructively whilst always maintaining the utmost respect for the struggles that a student is facing. I can't stress enough how music is supposed to be fun! It is a healthy outlet which teaches kids and adults alike the joy of interation with a group of people and can carry out in all kinds of aspects in life. Learning does not have to be boring and with music it is one of the most sacred and treasured things that we have as humans. I focus on trying to inspire a student and have them look forward to their next lesson. Read More

Hello! Tom here, lifelong musician and educator. I make music with drums (drum set, hand percussion), guitars (electric and acoustic), and electronic instruments (synthesizers, MIDI keyboards, DJ turntables). I also write, produce and perform my own music (find me @chroma.the.great on Instagram or Chroma the Great on music streaming platforms like Spotify). I've performed in big bands, jazz ensembles, rock bands, and as a solo singer-songwriter. You'll find everything from cheesy pop to experimental jazz in my Spotify music library. Read More

My teaching style is firm yet easygoing and fun..I expect the student to have practiced and be ready to play their homework back to me. I use repetition quite a bit but that's the best way, I find, that someone learns. I also encourage them to investigate and practice things that have not necessarily been assigned in order to see how serious they are. In other words, when they're not practicing what I show them, I expect them to experiment and investigate the fretboard on their own and then if they do come across something cool, then we can build off that Read More
