I began giving lessons after graduating from high school in 2017 and continued offering lessons both in-person and online when I went off to study at the University of the Pacific's Conservatory of Music. After graduating, I spent about 5 months working with my local Guitar Center offering lessons to people of all ages and in a variety of genres and styles. I primarily teach guitar, but as a music therapist, a significant portion of my experience includes singing with guitar accompaniment, so I am always open to teaching guitar students who are also interested in developing their vocal skills (all instrumentalists should know how to sing!). For intermidiate, learning some repetoire of a student's preferred style and applying theory/adding new ideas as well as becoming more famliar with the guitar neck For advanced, learning improvisational concepts and practice techniques or difficult song passages that will improve student's technique and musical vocabulary. My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time a 5 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students in my home studio for the last 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the guitar. My students are encouraged to enter competitions and recitals, as well as work on composing their own original material, so they can feel good about their accomplishments and stay motivated to learn. For beginning students I prefer to use Mathew Hinsley's method "Guitar for Young People". All of the peers that I grew to admire growing up with guitar used this method and became very good very quickly. Once the student has outgrown this method of introducing guitar I like to dive into what interests them, any style of music, and anything that will push their passion for learning guitar. This makes each student look forward to each lesson with eagerness and actually accelerates their progress. I never push a student and instead encourage and edify the student and try to use their own favorite pieces of music to keep them excited about their next lesson. Also chord books, books on scales, jazz methods, fake books, classical books and such. I like to teach my own style,being creative and going beyond basics.
