I have played and taught a wide range of styles throughout my life. I graduated from the University of Washington in 2010, majoring in Guitar performance. I have had the opportunity to play in rock bands, jazz ensembles and as a solo performer. I am currently getting my music ed credential at SJSU. I still play frequently in town with my jazz ensemble.
I have been teaching music since high school, where I was the brass section leader. I began to teach and play guitar in high school as well. I have taught all ages, including small children as well as senior citizens. Teaching is always refreshing and challenging- every day is different! Every student has a unique perspective with his or her own learning style.
With young students, I teach using the Royal Conservatory method. These books provide a good balance of technical development and quaity music. Once technical foundations are estabished, I will add ear training as well as theory and improvisation. For older students, I generally let them be the guide- whatever you want to work on is fine with me. Regardless of style, I try to make each lesson musical and fun.
I believe that the most important elements of teaching are patience, structure and positive reinforcement. I strive to make each lesson both enjoyable and worthwhile. Each student has their own learning style and pace. My highest aspiration is to ignite the spark of curiousity that will lead to a lifetime of fulfillment.
