Generally, I find that students that can read music can understand music concepts a lot better that those that don't read music. That being said, there are students that don't want to learn to read and I understand that as well. For those students there are many methods available that can help them achieve what they want. My experience goes back all the way to middle school. The first time I saw somebody playing a guitar I was surprised. I couldn't believe the melody that came out of it, and just how good it seemed the person playing was feeling. At the time I was about 11 years of age, when my mom bought my first guitar.
