My hope is to encourage and inspire players of all ages to pursue music as a passion and find love for it. Each student is and individual and as an individual, there is no cookie cutter way to teach. Each student has their own goals and their own reasons for learning guitar. My desire is to teach them to the point where they are satisfied with their level of playing while encouraging them to expand their horizons of music. Read More

For students older than 10 years of age, I will typically move into introducing basic chord and scale playing. I have found that students who are in the middle school to high school range have already developed an appreciation for some form of pop music, be it modern or older material from decades past. By introducing scales and chords, a student can progress into the realm of being able to learn, and eventually performing their favorite songs. Read More

Instead of playing traditional exercises, I teach students their favorite songs and techniques typical of their favorite genres. With my understanding of theory I try to incorporate a tiny bit of theory into every lesson to make an initially intimidating subject more accessible. Read More

My approach to teaching is based on the goals of each individual student. I always ask the student what their skill level is and what their goals are, and I use that information to create the right lesson for each individual. I also always encourage students to be honest about what they like and don't like about the lessons, and I am never bothered if a student doesn't like something or wants to do things differently. Around this time, I also began taking students for private lessons on violin, guitar, mandolin, banjo and all the other various things I play. In both the bigger theory classes and my one-on-one lessons, I really encourage students to work on material that they enjoy and to relate their studies to the things that they're passionate about. I want to ensure that my students are as excited about music as I am! Read More
