For beginners I usually start with a simple melody or riff. I love teaching Painting Black by The Rolling Stones because it is simple to play. Not only that, but it's a song that's easy to identify for most people's ear. I usually take my time allowing the student to learn. One or a few hours are enough to start learning the song. My teaching started in the final years of high-school. I started teaching trumpet to kids. Once I started college in Buenos Aires(Argentina) in a music composition degree I worked with several masters in a multitude of instruments(violin, flute, trumpet, guitar) which i was able to start teaching and performing live. At the same time I developed a craving for movement practice and martial arts. Although I have experience teaching both private, one-on-one lessons and group lessons in a classroom setting, I find that one-on-one lessons is the best way to learn. This allows students to go at their own pace and not have to feel rushed. Not to mention, it's way more enjoyable to learn when you have a patient teacher giving you support and motivation.
