My teaching experience dates back to since I was 16 years old. I've been playing the guitar and singing since I was 12, so after 4 years of experience and a lot of practice it was suggested that I should also teach others what I've learned. I started as a volunteer teacher in a clinic, to then teach in the student's own house and charging for it. The key point to learning fast is practicing a little bit VERY often, so that the brain can assimilate what it is learning. Read More

Over the years, I've taken lessons from instructors who had an array of teaching styles. While in high school, I was taught through intimidation and was scared into learning, which is something I was able to handle. This methods can actually turn students away from music which is the main reason dislike approach. Students should be comfortable and relaxed when entering a lesson. This not only creates a positive learning environment for the student but helps create a relationship between instructor and student that only helps the growth of both individuals. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs.. Read More

I usually take the first lesson to gauge what the student wants from learning their specific instrument. If they want to learn a specific song, if they want to get better at a certain genre, or if they just want something to do as a hobby! I believe it is counterproductive to force a certain system or lesson series that the student is not interested in. I have tons of practice books, scales, and warmups that I like to use to help the student become more proficient and confident in their craft. Read More

Later I formed my own band fronted by singer Scarlet Moore and occasional performances by Jeannie Bryson ( daughter of Dizzy Gillespie ). Read More

My teaching experience encompasses over a decade of teaching across three continents. I've taught in public high schools, music schools, multidisciplinary seminars and camps, universities (Yale, University of Toronto) conservatories (Cornish College of the Arts and Il Conservatorio della Svizzera italiana), and maintained a private studio since 2005. My students are an eclectic bunch and I couldn't be happier that this is the case; I regularly teach classical guitar lessons, help teenagers make hip hop and RnB records, work with budding sound designers, and coach avant-garde chamber music ensembles, just to name a few!
