Beginning students I will start with Hal Leonards beginning guitar and school of rock tablature so theyre learning both tab and notes. More advanced students will learn jazz out of multiple different books. We can start the lessons usually with warmups on scales, arpeggios and chords then for the rest of the lesson, focus on material. Developing your ear, or what is usually known as musicianship, is also something that I offer in addition to music theory. Read More

I perceive that teaching a student music is beyond simply having them play the right notes at the right time. I put High emphasis of posture, hand position, tone quality, etc.. My goal is to ultimately train well rounded musicians and not simply guitarists. I like my students to develop a musical taste and make tasteful decisions when playing their music. I teach my students Solfege, composition and arranging as well. Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, its important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress and this makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the students, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

I tend to use standard materials, especially for beginning players. But I will also mix in exercises and techniques tailored specifically to the students needs. It is good to learn from books, but also important to vet information that is not necessarily needed or already soundly in their techniques. Every musician is unique and they have their own way about learning and progressing. For more advanced students, learning as much repertoire as possible will be stressed. Read More

For my younger to play games with them that teaches them the fundamentals of music theory while also having fun during the lesson. For my older students I like to see what gets them excited during the lesson and move forward accordingly. That can be extremely different from Student to Student but I do like to stay involved with the process and positive throughout. It doesnt necessarily matter how experience they all as my usual students get up to speed within the space of a month, if not shorter. Read More

I was eight years old when seemingly out of nowhere I told my mother and father that I wanted a piano. Their wise response was "well you will have to take some lesson's first!" Fortunately, the very first instructor they found me was a wonderful teacher named Gordon Adams who not only stressed the importance of theory but also taught me how to play with great passion. He would pick one piece for me to work on, which was usually classical, and then he would let me choose another piece of my own desire. Read More

This happens differently for everyone. I believe the most important aspect in teaching music is to communicate universal concepts with language that suits the individual. From a playing standpoint, i think it is important that each student is studying what they find interesting in order to keep them excited and looking forward to lessons and practice. I do my best to cater to the individual and nurture their growing interest in music Read More
