In all of my teaching, I combine my students' interests with the leading pedagogy practices in string education to develop the foundational skills of the instrument as well as a fondness for it. There are several method books that I use such as Suzuki, Schroeder's Cello Etudes, and Fiddler's Philharmonic, however, I tailor each lesson path to each student based on student interest as well as proper sequencing. I generally start with these method books, especially for cello, for beginning students. Read More

For beginning students who are children, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. It is vital that the student has a solid foundation of knowledge before he or she begins learning solo repertoire. Once the student is ready to do solo repertoire, I introduce styles of classical, jazz, and pop for variety so the student can stay interested in the instrument. For adults, my main goal is to help them become self-sufficient on their instrument. Read More

My teaching style varies depending on the level of the student. For beginners, I often keep my approach lax and hope to not overwhelm them, as Ive seen many a beginner quit due to lack of confidence and understanding. Every student requires a different approach not just due to their skill level but also their personality. Certain students dont take criticism well, while others may only improve through it. I always try to be kind and understanding no matter where my students skill level or passion is at. Read More

For piano students, I prefer Alfred's methods, whether the adult or for beginners. For band and orchestra, I use Essential Elements (or whatever their school is using), and supplement with Rubank's methods. For voice, I concentrate on whatever the student is interested in, with a foundation of good technique and understanding of the voice range and how to control it, with some solfege and sight-singing mixed in. Whatever the instrument, I follow and listen to the student to understand what they need, and change my curriculum to suit them. Read More

Hello everyone! My name is Michael and I am currently in a band. My passion for music came at a very young age, I understand the power of music. Kids today need music more than ever I feel. I have toured the country with my band, seeing how music really does bring people. Music to me is the most real form of art. We'll be able to see success in a short period of time Witnessing people play a chord on the guitar for the first time correctly is an amazing experience. Read More

There is not one specific method that I use to teach; I use combinations of various methods which I have learned over the years, and I tailor the lessons to best fit each individual student's level and what they are interested in musically. While I recommend learning to read music, I will not force anyone to do it if they don't want to. And just remember, even Jimi Hendrix couldn't read music. Read More

Seeing a student progress and dive into their own passions in their music career is one of the most important things of this art. I strongly believe that each student should progress in their own time frame based on their own determination, with a strong emphasis on a regular practice schedule. Also by encouraging the student's tastes rather than attempting to drill the tastes of my own into them, it can become a very awarding process! Read More
