For beginning students, I use the Hal Leonard Basic or Kids Guitar Method because it is such a good introduction to the instrument. For bass and ukulele I also use the beginner Hal Leonard Method books. For more advanced students, I first get a sense for what they want to learn and where they want to go, by asking them some questions about their previous education, what songs they like to listen to, and any problems with practicing or grasping the material, that they may have experienced. Music has always been a passion of mine ever since I could remember. My fathers old cornet constantly taunted me, telling me to play it. Fast Forward 12 years, I went to Berklee College of Music to study Trumpet Performance. I am a consumate learner, testing my knowledge in many different disciplines of music, from composition to instruments I have never played. Read More

My teaching experience has been as eclectic as my musical experiences. Over the past 2 years I have been teaching private lessons at my home studio consistently. Currently I'm looking to expanding my student-base and focus on teaching full time while finishing my final year of graduate studies. The majority of my students have been beginners ages 5-14, although I've been giving informal guitar lessons to peers for the majority of my college and graduate school time. Read More

Individual classes are always going to become personalized since thats the time when you can really focus on your own goals which pretty much vary as much as people do so i would have to say that my approach would depend on what the student wants to get out of the instrument and what he/she wants to learn. An understanding of the fundamentals is usually wise so i always encourage the students to take a more dogmatic approach to the instrument since thats what has worked for me, now being that said it would't be the first or last time that we see a guitar player master his instrument by ear like we've seen with greats like Jimi Hendrix, Robert Johnson and B.B King so to restrain a student from a more popular approach would be naive and time has taught me to mingle in both styles of learning since either way it is required a lot of discipline and practice. I'm a passionate and motivated vocalist/guitarist/lyricist who is mostlynew to teaching in the formal sense. I've spent time in the past teaching friends here and there, but never really setup a regular clientele due to family or work commitments etc. While I consider myself to be a versatile vocalistwho can sing most styles of music I belive my greatest gift to be able to access the deep emotions that make a song stand out to the listener. For beginner students, I will work on technique, sheet music and getting them started with their first few chords. Technique can be different for everyone on the guitar but approaching the fundamentals of it are important. Sight reading and learning music is similar to technique in the sense that it is all about how you learn the fundamentals in the beginning. A Modern Method for Guitar and any Berklee press books are great to use. Read More

I've been playing professionally for over 18 years and have had the pleasure of being able to tour the country playing music. I've also had the opportunity to travel toEgypt, Iraq, Kuwait, Curacao, Canada, Mexico and Cuba to perform. I've lived and been able to immerse myself in two fantastic music cities, New Orleans and Memphis, both of which have had a profound influence on my playing. I like playing many different styles of music and have been in bands that played rock, jazz, funk, blues, soul, reggae, pop, country, and americana. Read More
