The most rewarding thing about teaching is seeing my students cultivate their love for music, and self-confidence in their sound! In order to best achieve this, the most fundamental understanding is that each student learns and progresses at his or her own pace! Instruments: Flute
When teaching such a specialized topic as the flute, I cater to specific needs of that particular student by bringing out their strengths and providing consistent and genuine positive reinforcement. I use method books such as Trevor Wye, Rubank, and Anderson etudes, depending on the level of the student. In addition to those, I also provide some of my own materials such as scales, fingering charts, and pieces. Knowing that each student will learn at different paces and levels of energy, I balance technical elements with musical ones by having them coincide as much as possible. Read More

For beginning and intermediate students, I like to assign short pieces from method books such as Student Instrumental Course and Rubank. For more advanced students, I will help them explore their particular interests, introduce them to traditional repertoire, and for jazz/rock/pop students, aid them in the process of transcribing the music they love, which benefits their vocabulary as well as their ears. In developing a complete musician, I want to offer support for my students' other musical activities, as well as provide them with resources that they might not have elsewhere. Read More

If a student is young I often suggest starting on the recorder in order for them to develop their skills and prepare them for switching to the flute later. Read More

Every year I host recitals to give my students an opportunity to perform in additional to helping students prepare for local auditions, open mics, and other performances. Read More
