I love watching people improve little by little. Its what makes the job worth it! As the teacher, I will try to make every improvement celebrated. I will try to tailor the teaching style to the students personality, because everyone is different. We will take things at the students pace as well to ensure proper growth as a player. I also love to teach with imagery and storylines as well, in a way it makes learning even more fun and it can add more depth to any piece or even your everyday scales! Read More

Additionally, I like to work with scales and long tones in a more advanced way, expanding the range of the instrument and tone quality as we prepare repertoire. With students interested in jazz, either as their primary course of study or in addition to classical music, we focus even more on scales and arpeggios, aiming to master first the most commonly used keys and then expanding to 12 key mastery. I like to begin with a play-along book like Jamey Aebersold's "Maiden Voyage", stressing the beginnings of improvisation, then moving on to more advanced tunes and chord progressions. Read More

For beginners, I use Rebecca Simonfalvi's called "Potential Contender." It is geared for young children starting out in band. For adults, I generally move between Trevor Wye's "Beginners book for the flute" or the Rubank Elementary Method. If needed, especially with the young, I generally have my students take notes of lessons. I also teach basic theory to give students a deeper understanding of the music. For the advanced student, the focus becomes about fine-tuning fundamentals, and learning repertoire that will propel them forward to the next level. Read More

As I mentioned before, there is no greater reward than to witness students recognizing their own potential for themselves! Therefore, all lessons are built around the student's desires, needs, and talent. All individuals have the ability to learn and play an instrument and this is something I strongly believe in. I am a very open minded teacher who encourages "outside of the box" approaches and loves to explore different ideas to gain a full understanding of musical gestures, styles, and mastery. Read More

I have taught flute for 4 years to people of all ages -I have taught children, high school students, pre-college division music majors, college students and adult amateurs - students who have played in school and community orchestras, churches and for their own personal enjoyment. While I was attending the Conservatory we were also required to take several "method" classes that involved not only knowing the history of the instrument but the history of teaching the instrument as well as teaching the instrument in front of the Conservatory faculty. Instruments: Saxophone Flute
For beginners, I typically start with fundamentals and technique combined with the, Essential Elements 2000. Once the student gets in track, I start introducing more advanced book such Rubank, J.H Luft, H.Klose and Feerling. For adults and more advanced students, most likely I develop a custom guide and protocol based on what their focus of interest is. I would provide the necessary information more related to Jazz music style and technique in order to develop a proper language. Read More

I teach music, not just instruments. I try to develop a broad appreciation for music that will stay with my students wherever they go in life. I take an individualized approach based on learning styles and strengths. I believe in positive reinforcement, especially with younger students! I also take into account preferences for music styles and attempt to use repertoire that not only broadens their experience, but keeps students focused and interested. Read More
