My teaching experience began during my college years, and I have been teaching private music lessons for over seven years across various cities, including Seattle, Boston, and Evanston. I focus on creating a personalized and supportive environment for each student, helping them develop a love for music while building their confidence and skills. I believe that incorporating a mix of classical pieces and contemporary music can greatly enhance students' enjoyment and motivation. Read More

Libby has a variety of styles, and methods appropriate for, or that the student will like according to his/her interests. I tell students about various brands and styles of the instrument, and products.. I use music books that the students can buy at the music store. Then I find other music at the student's level that will help them progress to a new level, or stay at the same level if they so desire. Read More

I feel each of my students are unique. I love watching my students' level of musical understanding progress. I love seeing the dedication and determination begin to heighten as the lessons progress. Within each lesson I point out areas that need to be worked on as well as areas of improvement. Seeing one's progress is the most important element to me for my students. Therefore, I like to record my students quarterly for a few minutes within a lesson to show the mass amounts of improvement they will accomplish. Read More

I first find out how the students learns best. Knowing if somebody is hands on, likes to listen, needs to watch, be shown etc. can impact the experience and quality of the lesson. Using analogies is something that has really helped me in my practicing so I enjoy passing that on. Setting realistic short term and long term goals are absolutely essential to progression, along with finding an inspiration. I have always found a player who inspired me and would figure out what they were doing to sound the way they sound. Read More

I also participated in the Teacher Training Program at the Boston Flute Academy where I taught workshops to adults and junior high students on sight-reading and intonation, and masterclasses to advanced junior high and high school students. I have very high standards for teaching. That is why I did not start teaching until my fourties. At that point I felt that I had both the life experience and skills to be a good teacher. There is a lot more to playing music than just playing the right notes. That is what I call the mechanics of music but the not the soul.Obviously you must start with the basics to get to any deeper level of expression. That is what I am most passionate about. Why does anyone want to play an instrument?
