Daryl began playing flute at the age of 11, as part of a middle school band class. His band instructor noticed his innate talent, and began to prepare him for studies at the Music Advancement Program at the Juilliard School. During this two year program, Daryl studied flute with Jayn Rosenfeld, played in chamber ensembles and orchestra, while also studying music history, music theory, and ear training. Daryl also made his concerto debut playing Vivaldi's "Il Gardellino" in the final year of the program. Daryl's time at MAP, prepared him for entry to the prestigious high school Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School for Music and Art and the Performing Arts, where he was a flute instrumental music major. He continued to study with Jayn Rosenfeld during his freshmen year, while he played as principal flute player in the Bronx Burowide Band/Orchestra. He also was the Piccolo Soloist for Sousa's March "Stars and Stripes Forever". For the remainder of high school, he studied in the Honors Program at the Mannes College of Music Prepartory Division with Sue Ann Kahn. Daryl graduated high school serving one year as Piccolo Player in the Senior Symphonic Orchestra, and one year as Principal Flute Player of the Senior Symphoniy Orchestra, Senior Symphonic Band, and the Pit Orchestras of Ragtime and City of Angels. Daryl graduated from Mannes as the Philharmonic Piccolo Player. Daryl continued his music studies at Vassar College, where he studied with John Solum. Daryl continued his chamber music and orchestra playing, and won the Music Department's Concerto Competition in 2010, playing Borne's "Carmen Fantasy." He was also chosen as a student soloist with Vassar's Modern Music Ensemble playing Ginastera's "Impresiones de la Puna." Daryl is currently taking one year off to prepare for graduate programs in flute performance.
I am a dedicated and enthusiastic teacher with a passion for sharing music. I have a Bachelors degree in Flute Performance as well as a Masters of Arts in Teaching with an emphasis on instrumental music. As a flutist I have had the privelage of performing all over the world including China and Ireland. I also regularly substitute and perform with the New Haven Symphony Orchestra and the Waterbury Symphony.
I love helping my students discover what inspires them about music. Through working with each student's individual needs I am able to tailor my lessons to match them perfectly. My goal is to bring out the joy in music for my students.
I am passionate about both teaching and performing. I am Suzuki certified and take Shin’ichi Suzuki's philosophy to heart. I believe that, by taking flute lessons, everyone can learn confidence, discipline, and the joy of self-expression through music. I offer both Suzuki and traditional flute lessons and believe that it is my job as an educator to tailor my teaching style to the varying needs, interests and goals of each individual student. In addition to teaching I am an active freelance flute and piccolo player. I love playing in symphonies and opera orchestras and have worked with conductors Pierre Vallet, Keith Chambers, and David Bernard among others. I particularly love the exhilaration of soaring above the orchestra on piccolo. I have performed at venues throughout the city including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and Symphony Space. I received my Bachelor's in Music in Flute Performance from New York University, graduating summa cum laude in 2007. My primary teachers include Keith Underwood and Kathleen Nester.
It is important to adopt a teaching style that is tailored to the individual needs of each student, especially because each student learns at their own pace. Setting goals is one of the first topics I discuss with my students, and then indicate some of the steps they need to take to achieve the goals that they set for themselves. Keeping track of a student's hours of practice and their musical achievements is beneficial for me to determine what new material and concepts to work on, and also allows the student to stay organized and motivated.

Many adult players find the flute to be a relaxing and meditative instrument. Our teachers are comfortable working with new flutists at any age, as well as older players who are returning to an old love. The flute can be a great instrument to accompany others or to play as a soloist.
In-home flute lessons are an extremely convenient option for busy students and parents. The student saves time and money while learning a new skill without having to leave the comfort of home!
Young players should begin by renting. Consider renting well-known brands like Yamaha, Gemeinhardt, and Armstrong. An instructor may recommend a curved head-joint called a "candy cane" head-joint is available. More advanced players might want to consider purchasing a flute with an extended B foot joint and open-hole keys.
New flutists will learn the basics of caring for the instrument, as well as how to hold and properly assemble the flute. Students will learn correct breathing, how to develop a beautiful tone, the ins and outs of articulation, and how to form the proper embouchure. All Musika students will be exposed to music theory and the process of reading music.
The flute is the one of the smallest instrument in the band and is therefore easy for young players to transport and hold. Musika recommends beginning the flute around 7 or 8 when the student is old enough to properly hold the instrument and press the keys. The flute does take significant amount of lung capacity, so the player does need to have the physical requirements to produce a quality sound.

Travis is an extremely knowledgeable guitarist and teacher. Travis is equally comfortable in playing/teaching jazz, rock, blues, or classical styles. I really like the way he explains things and he has the ability to make difficult material seem simpler. Travis is very likeable, enthusiastic, and always very professional. I think Travis would be great teaching either children or adults because he's very patient. My learning experience with Travis has been outstanding. He taught me some great techniques for chord substitution and for soloing. I'll continue to work with Travis because he inspires me to be a better guitarist. I think he could really help me with composing because he writes some great songs too! Thanks Travis!

Dr. Nedra C is incredible. She knows her craft in and out, it truly shows in her teaching. As well, she cares a great deal about the student, and preps plenty of material outside of the lesson for those that she teaches. I've had many different music teachers and am aware who's talented and cares, and who isn't. Dr. Nedra C is true phenomenal, and any student would be lucky to have her.

She is amazing! My daughter, Isabella (7 yrs) is totally engaged in the lesson. Lilly's definitely has a gift with teaching young children!!! A great talent of hers is making the content interesting, current to today's music and most of all fun! She has a knack for taking the material and translating it in a way that is relatable to Isabella. My daughter really enjoys her lesson's and has moved along rather quickly with the material. Pavel is doing a great job with my 6 year old son. Pavel is doing a great job helping my son focus on technique and rhythm, which is something previous instructors weren't so successful with. Pavel is organized / structured / systematic, which is what my son needs now, but I hope he relaxes a bit as the lessons continue so that more "joy" comes through.

My 4 year old son is quite energetic. Another piano teacher tried to teach him before Peter and could not get my son to listen to him at all. That teacher told me that my son had no interest and that we needed to wait before having my son take lessons. Peter started teaching my son a few weeks later. He quickly developed a great rapport with my son. I was astounded when my son sat down and listened to Peter during the first lesson. Peter has remarkable patience and is a natural working with children. He knows when to follow the child's lead. My son is very interested in how the piano works, so Peter takes the time to teach him about this. He is able to use my son's interests (superheroes, Lego, Star Wars, etc.) to refocus him back to playing the piano. Between lessons, he brainstorms on how he can teach my son better. For example, my son was playing the notes, but not understanding rhythm, so Peter looked into it and came back the next week with a new plan which helped. My son looks forward to his lesson every week. When he hears the doorbell ring on lesson day, he exclaims, "Yay! Peter's here!"
Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.Ok
