I am a passionate teacher of the flute and piccolo. I am currently available to teach lessons at my home studio or online. I have helped students prepare for performances in Cincinnati and Japan, scholarship auditions, and begin the flute from scratch. I began teaching in Mississippi in 2011 to college students at the University of Southern Mississippi. After moving to Cincinnati, I began teaching preschool music. I began developing a preschool curriculum at the University of Cincinnati's Preparatory Program that combined reading, dancing, singing and imagining. After teaching privately for a year, I began my position as Executive Director of the Cincinnati Outreach (COR) Music Project. For beginning students, I typically start with the Rubank Elementary Method Flute Book by A. C. Peterson. Once the student has progressed and has managed to grasp fundamentals, we can proceed to the next volumes within the same series. For adults, I typically do my best to see what they are interested, and will guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lessons intriguing. I usually start with the Rubank Elementary Method book. There are four books in the series and they are very comprehensive. Once the student progresses to the Intermediate book, I also add Selected Duets Volume 1. I have found that playing duets strengthens listening skills and intonation, plus they are fun! When a solid foundation has been established, it is much easier to approach those more complicated concepts. It then allows everything that a student do to become easier and truly move forward in their learning at an accelerated pace.
