I always explore different methods that might fit the age and personality of the student but for keyboard lessons I have found success with the Alfred Piano Method. Instrumental lessons usually follow the method book that is selected by their school band director. Beyond that I have a large library of supplementary music to expand the students interest with new styles and composers.I'm very flexible with the method books and after I get to know the student I can select a method that would work the best for instruction. Watching a student develop a passion for music is a very rewarding feeling.  Thats why I feel it is important that each student progresses at his or her own pace.  Everyone learns at different paces and in different ways. I began teaching music at the age of 15, primarily guitar and piano lessons for beginners ages 7-14 in my hometown of Parker, CO. At 16 I began teaching my students basic music theory and intermediate instrumental instruction. I moved to Boston in 2012 to pursue an undergraduate degree in Songwriting from Berklee College of Music in Boston, still actively teaching throughout my curriculum. I have now taught over 200 students ages 4 to 64 a wide variety of music-related subjects, including: piano, guitar, bass, voice, music theory, D.A.W. and notation software, and contemporary songwriting. I have also taught private lessons on various instruments and in voice since 2008. I have had my students make All-State Honor Band/All-State Choir, I have had students get college scholarships and many have been accepted into colleges as music majors, I have had students nominated for the All-American Army Marching Band, and have even had students perform solo recitals in public venues. My goal with all students is that they enjoy learning, become self-motivated to practice, and consider their musical abilities as a gift which they can choose to share with others whenever they feel comfortable to do so. I have experience using a variety of method books and can easily recommend appropriate materials. For beginning piano students, I use the Faber Piano Adventure series. This series is simple, filled with music theory, and keeps the young student motivated. For beginning flute students, I use the Trevor Wye flute instruction books, along with the curriculum that is being taught in the student's band class at school.
