I'm a flute teacher interested in educating young flutists as whole musicians, integrating music theory, ear training, eurhythmics, and history where applicable. With a background in music therapy, I have a complex understanding of how music and music learning interact with a person's body, mind, and spirit, and I believe that becoming better musicians can make us better human beings, if we let it. My teaching style is heavily student focused: By listening to my student's voice and choice, I want to work together to create musical goals for them that we can develop as we progress. Instruments: Piano Flute Recorder Piccolo

For young beginners I typically with Suzuki Book 1 or the Abracadabra Flute Book.  For children preparing for NYSMA I use the Rubank method with supplements from Forty Little Pieces and gradually move on to more solo repertoire.  For adult students I make repertoire selections based on students' interests while taking care to keep lessons both engaging and fun no matter their starting level.  Although my training is primarily classical, I am happy to incorporate music from other genres into lessons. I've been teaching private lessons since college. I've taught beginner piano and different levels of voice. I like to make sure my students have a strong foundation, but I also make sure they're enjoying their lessons! Music therapy is different than teaching private lessons, but I've worked with many different people throughout my time as a music therapist including; children with disabilities, geriatric patients, psychiatric patients, adults in memory care, and many others. In 1995, I graduated Boston University with a Bachelor of Music degree in Flute Performance. Performing all over the United States and Canada with various theatre, orchestral, and chamber ensembles has given me the opportunity to do what I love and meet many people who share a joy of music.
