Once the student has demonstrated a sufficient grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce repertoire, always gauging their level so that I can provide them with a challenging and rewarding experience. For adults and intermediate to advanced flutists, I try to get sense for the student's level and how they are interested in growing, and tailor my methods and repertoire selections to that. As I said earlier I tend to use the Rubank and Essential Element books in lessons. I start with seeing what the students goals are and making a goal sheet. For instance if a student is interested in Musicals. We will start with our basic warm up and techniques but on top of that I would assign an excerpt from a musical that correlates with the current lesson. Tommy has been teaching since 2017. He has taught in both one-on-one and group lessons for students of all ages. Tommy has taught flute, clarinet, saxophone, and theory lessons to both beginning students and at the collegiate level. Tommy also performs with many different ensembles across a wide variety of genres. I realize that each student is a unique individual with different learning preferences. With each student, I design a different approach that caters to the student's needs.
