I am a Suzuki and traditional teacher. I encourage public performances as often as possible and will help students identify appropriate opportunities to do so. Students who study with me drive their own education by making choices. You can choose Suzuki or traditional flute lessons. You can choose to focus mainly on classical music, modern music, pop music, or jazz music as suits your tastes. .I am passionate about music and the transforming power it has in people's lives. I have Suzuki teacher training in Flute Book one from East Tennesse University in 1996. I have my Masters in Education from Lehigh University. Currently I am the Music Specialist for Lehigh University's Child Care Center, and I direct the Youth Choir at St. Theresa Parish in Hellertown. I perform with the Moravian College Collegium Musicum and sing with the Allentown Diocesan Choir.  I am currently Licensed to Teach MusikGarten and plan to hold a class this Fall for 3-5 year olds. For beginning piano students, I usually employ the Faber or Alfred Series books. They are intuitive and the various books (Lesson, Theory, Technique, Performance, etc) complement each other well! They also have an "older beginner" series that is great for teens and adults that are new to piano. I also encourage my students to try composition, even if it is very simple melodies. I teach in a very energetic and encouraging way. I don't want you coming into a lesson dreading the fact that you have to play music, I want you coming in excited to show off what you've learned! To help you feel like you aren't getting 'stuck' in lessons, I like to create goals and then create a timeline on how and when you'll achieve those goals. I began teaching in high school, where I taught lessons to the younger students as well as instructed my jazz band in improvisation lessons. I enjoyed problem solving with my students and figuring out the appropriate exercise or explanation to help them get over a particular hurdle.
