There are so many cliches regarding teaching style. In my opinion, the bottom line is a teacher who communicates concepts simply, is very caring, and has the performing and teaching experience to base that on will inspire a lot more success and fulfillment than one who does not. I invite you to take a no risk trial lesson, meet me, interview me, let me know what you are looking to accomplish, and I humbly but confidently assure you that I will give the basis, and the expertise to help you get wherever it is you want to go musically. Over the years, I've learned that every single student learns differently in addition to going at their own pace. Anyone at any age CAN learn music! I've found that presenting multiple solutions to varying problems gives the students the best chance to succeed and it's not that someone cannot learn, they just haven't been presented with an explanation they can understand and clicks for them. I teach for each student individually and to their strengths, not what has worked for others. Read More

It is important to me that students enjoy their lessons and the process of working on a piece of music. This starts with a good rapport between student and teacher. I also believe that a successful musician needs a strong technical base. This includes scales, long tones, and chorales, Lessons will always begin the basics and then move on to music and repertoire. Lessons will be paced to keep students engaged. Read More

My teaching style involves the student being able to measure their growth and assess what they can do to continue their growth. I make sure students practice on a regular basis and at the end of lessons, I have them repeat back to me what they need to continue learning. This helps them practice on their own without me in between weekly classes. When an improvement happens during the lesson, I acknowledge it right away (with younger students, I also use a visual, such as stars, so they can see their progress) and have the student say out loud what made it a good run through so they can continue to perform that way! My approach to teaching varies with the age level of each student. With younger students, imitation is often one of the best methods of learning and I prefer the Suzuki method for students up to age 8, especially with strings. For older children and adults, learning music notation and basic music theory for a full understanding of musical language are more important to get them to the level where they can learn any music that they want to play for fun. Then (as they say), the rest is history. He continued on to perform with a “Who’s Who” in music entertainment including The Temptations (1986), Thomas Dolby (1988), Dave Valentin (1988) and Lenny Kravitz (1989). His ambidextrous florid jazz style placed him comfortably in the company of an eclectic roster including “The College Boyz”, “The Cult”, Tyrone Davis (1990) and the rock group “Living Colour” (1991). He’s received a number of video credits including Lenny Kravitz’ hit “It Aint Over ‘Til It’s Over”, Queen Latifah’s “How Do I Love Thee " Sting’s “You Still Touch Me”. Read More
