During my employment with Sallie B. Howard School for the Arts and Education (in Wilson, NC) where I introduced a marching band program and lead the band to winning second place in the Music in the Parks competition in May of 2015. During my internship I was able to develop a percussion line with the students in under a month. For beginning students who are children, I usually start with a songbook, such as the Accent on Achievement method book. Once the student has a grasp on the fundamentals, I begin to introduce solo repertoire. For adult students, I try to find out what the student is interested in pursuing, and then if they are a beginner, I teach fundamentals through the Rubank method books and supplement with songs that are approapriate to the student's taste. Blythe recently relocated to Maryland, but she has also taught in New York, New Jersey, and Tennessee, as well as internationally, in Egypt and Costa Rica. She has taught privately, worked in public schools at the secondary and elementary level, taught in community music schools and arts camps, and has worked with various organizations that provide free music education to students in need.
