I'm a passionate, motivated, and organized instructor who loves working with my students to share my love of music. I graduated from Northwestern University this June with my Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education and Saxophone Performance. I maintained a studio of six saxophone, piano, and percussion students while earning my degree, so I am very experienced with private teaching! As a saxophone player, woodwinds are my specialty. Having taught many students over the years, my favorite books for young beginners are the Rubank series and Pares Scale book. These give a good foundation and progression and have easy to read fingering charts. Once a student gets going with these I introduce simple duet books so that, by playing with me, they develop a strong sense of tone and intonation. The first solo books I recommend are collections of solo's by famous composers, these give the student the chance to gravitate toward the style and composer they like best. Read More

I have found from my past lessons with music teachers that acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, which will help a student feel more eager to learn. By helping inspire a student, I can successfully change my instruction to their wants and needs. Every lesson includes some technical exercises and a musical piece. These will be solo pieces as well as duets, being that I can play along with the flute or the guitar. With more advanced students that already have found the love for their instrument, I focus on strengthening their weak points, be it technique, sound or interpretation.
