I played music all my life. I began to play the flute at the age of 9 years old and the piano at around 12. I graduated from Washington Adventist University with a degree in music performance. I have performed with the New England Symphonic Ensemble in various countries all over the world including England, Thailand, Greece, Italy, Mexico, Jamaica, Caymen Islands and South Africa. My methods vary between each student. For beginning students, that are not learning in a school setting, I typlically start with Hal Lenard's Essential Elements For Band. Once the student had progressed, I will start to introduce solo repetoire that the student will be instested in, which could be pop tunes or other type of music. This will encourage the student's passion for music to grow. If the student is in a school setting, then the student will work on all of the music for school and solo repetoire. Read More

My materials and methods differ depending on the pupil's age/ability. For a young 11 year old beginner, homework assignments will begin with the instrument itself, and then eventually Book One of any method book desired. Popular practice dictates good results with books like Yamaha and Standard of Excellence. For middle-level ability (middle school / early high school), the Rubank series is perfect. Finally, with middle and above levels; solos, ensemble work, duets, and additional etude books will be used. Read More

Outside of Towson University, I was a woodwind specialist with the Westminster High School Marching Band. I have worked in various music stores including Bill’s Music House in order to strengthen my knowledge and pedagogy of other wind instruments. Professional memberships include Kappa Kappa Psi, National Honorary Band Fraternity and the National Association for Music Education.
