I have been teaching private lessons for 10 years. Encouraging students to practice regularly and to have fun with their instrument is essential for the learning process. I stress the importance of these two things so that the student may develop a love for music and their instrument of choice. Also, being able to teach a variety of musical styles keeps students wanting to learn. I encourage students to not only learn written pieces, but to create their own music and individual sound. I want my students to be well-rounded musicians. This means that as we work towards fluency on the instrument, in the meantime, we will also work towards a stronger understanding of music theory, as it will tremendously strengthen one's ability to comprehend, analyze, and interpret music - to a much deeper level. I have helped students achieve their goals as young as 4 years old and into their college years! I am trained in the Suzuki Method, but I also feel comfortable teaching any preference and learning style. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing a student develop a passion for music! Therefore, it is important to approach each student individually, adjusting my teaching methods to them personally. This ensures that the student progresses at their own pace. Most importantly, I encourage their progress by setting proper goals and acknowledging their accomplishments which makes students eager to learn more. Making progress is the goal for both me and my students, and we work together to make that possible. Read More

For beginning students, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements, Suzuki, and easy scales. Once the student has progressed and appears to grasp the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce etudes and solo pieces. I also teach students elementary music theory related to the pieces they are learning. For advanced students, I focus more on their technique and performance. Scales and etudes are essential as well as having experience playing a diverse repertoire. Read More

I have a customized approach to instruction that keeps pace with the student's skill level and ability. Goal setting is an important activity that I use to sustain interest and encouragement. For example, we may decide together that we will attempt to master a particular inspiring piece of music by a specific date. Naturally, the date will be reset depending upon the student's progress. I like to incorporate contemporary music into the lesson so that my students can see that the violin can be used widely in various musical genre. Read More
