I taught private violin lessons in college through the IUP String Project, where I learned a lot about the Suzuki Method of teaching. I have 11 years of experience directing orchestra and teaching lessons to students in grades 4-12. I have taught beginning students all the way up to advanced, and many of my students have advanced to PMEA District and Region orchestra festivals. I am most comfortable teaching the western method of music (learning to read music right away), but I am a firm believer in tailoring my teaching style to meet the needs of the students. Read More

Ive been in choirs (from community to All-State) since I was born, literally - my mom was the church choir director, and I followed suit, assisting her and student-directing my high school choir. I started piano lessons in 4th grade and used it to compose my own music and play in churches since then. For my youngest students, age 7 and under, I begin with Adventures in Violinland, a wonderful method written by Shirley Givens, instructor at Peabody Preperatory. This teaches note reading with a solfegg system. It has a strong emphasis on technique. For beginners ages 8 and up, I use either Essential Elements or Sound Innovations, usually matching it with whatever the school district uses that the student lives in. As the students progress, I use the Suzuki repertoire as well as various scale and technique books. Read More

As I have taught for many years, I feel encouraged and motivated when I can pass along my love for music.
