My teaching style is casual with an emphasis on developing love for the music alongside a technical and musical understanding of it. I encourage this by promoting practice methods which are likely to foster a deep experience of the music in the student, setting realistic but challenging goals in lessons which require the student to grow in order to succeed, and providing honest feedback with lots of encouragement. I like to get to know the student as I am teaching so I create small breaks to get to know who I am teachign and their interest, so that I may taylor my lessons to the student. For beginning students I like to use essential elements books as a guide for their practice. Once that connection is established, I like to find out the students interests and make sure a personal goal is set that we can achieve together. I have been teaching for about 8 years now. I am well skilled in classical, romantic, Latin, experimental, baroque, and modern music. Ive performed across the globe, in places such as New York, Walt Disney World, Honolulu, Italy, and Spain. I have performed with many different groups over the years, including, but not limited to: the Chicago Cosmopolitan Orchestra, the Riojas Duo, Summer Music in Tuscany Chamber Players, and on some of the worlds most famous stages, the Schermerhorn Symphony center, the Chicago Symphony center, in the Auditorium Theater. Teaching is something I have always felt passionately about. I first started teaching at the age of 14, teaching martial arts to young kids nearly every day at my stepfather’s martial arts school. As I grew up and began taking music more seriously, teaching remained an important part of my life: as clarinet section leader in the Marine Corps Forces Pacific Band in Hawaii, I was responsible for administering weekly lessons to other clarinet players in the band, and I also worked with several school music programs in Hawaii, developing and leading masterclasses for K-12 students. I also want to see them reaching their full potential and musical goals, whatever they may be.
