I am a dedicated and enthusiastic instructor who loves working with students and sharing my passion for music. I hold a Master of Music degree in Flute Performance from Northwestern University and a Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance from the New England Conservatory. I've had the privilege of performing as Principal Flute with the Boston Philharmonic Orchestra and collaborating with various ensembles across the United States. I believe that learning music should be fun and inspiring, but that 95% of artistry is simply hard work!  I, therefore, aim to create a positive and encouraging environment for all of my students, while still setting challenging goals.  Additionally, I tailor my teaching to fit each student’s needs so that he or she can maximize learning potential. For all of my new students, I gauge where they are at in their musical development and start to create a plan for them. I assess their strengths first and then go right into areas that need work. I work a lot on fundamentals such as breathing, sound development, and comfortable hand position so that students can use their bodies most efficiently in their music making. I also insist on students learning to develop musical ideas right from the start so they realize that playing the flute is not only about blowing air and pushing buttons. Read More

I encourage them to explore the material covered during lessons as well as make discoveries on their own. I have been an educator and performer in the Seattle area for over 20 years I enjoy working with beginners as well as more advanced students.I am a very patient teacher who both likes to challenge students but puts a priority on having fun and loving music.I also have been performing in the Northwest for over 30 years.I have been a member and co-founder of jazz,blues,reggae,experimental,and world music bands.I have performed at many venues and festivals around the Northwest including: Earshot jazz festival,Bumbershoot, Folklife, New Works for Saxophone, and many others. I first find out how the students learns best. Knowing if somebody is hands on, likes to listen, needs to watch, be shown etc. can impact the experience and quality of the lesson. Using analogies is something that has really helped me in my practicing so I enjoy passing that on. Setting realistic short term and long term goals are absolutely essential to progression, along with finding an inspiration.
